A community paralegal training program was organized in the Bongo and Walewale districts in May, 2014 to train 30 female volunteer paralegals on legal issues. The aim of the training was to empower women to assist their community members in addressing their human rights and violations.

Trainees were provided with manuals complied by LRC which included legal summaries covering the Ghanaian legal system; child rights, family law, labor law, criminal law, legal aid and commercial law and others.

These laws were chosen due to their particular relevance to women living in rural communities and were summarized and presented in simplified language to make the information as understandable as possible.

In the course training, Mrs. Daphne Lariba Nabila, the Executive Director of the Legal Resources Centre, explained the content of the manuals to participants and questions raised were also answered.

The training program which began from the 22nd.May – 24th.May, 2014 was organized by Legal Resources Centre in partnership with the Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund.

At the end of the training, participants felt the workshop made a positive contribution to their lives and addressed their legal needs. The interactive workshop helped them to get more education and also empowered them to provide legal advice to their fellow community members.
