On 4th of October, 2015 the LRC participated in a civil society round table with UN special Rapporteur on Torture in Accra.
The Round table was aimed at facilitating an open exchange between civil society and the Special Rapporteur on new developments, progress, and challenges in a number of follow-up priority areas in relation to torture and other ill-treatment in the country. Some topical areas discussed in assessment of the situation under the criminal Justice system and Mental Health Practices include Incidence of Torture and Accountability, Legislative Developments, Conditions of Detention, Monitoring and Inspection of Places of Detention , Women and Children in Detention, Treatment of Persons with Disabilities, The Mental Health Act and Mental Authority Board, Conditions and Standard of Care in Psychiatric Centres, Prayer Camps (Treatment of Persons, Regulation, Control, and Supervision) and Institutional Reform and Assistance by International and Regional Mechanisms
 
 
The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Mr. Juan E. Méndez was on an official follow-up visit to Ghana together with the Anti Torture Initiative. The main purpose of the visit is to follow up on the status of the Government’s implementation of the recommendations made by the Special Rapporteur after his November 2013 visit to Ghana.
