As part of its efforts in promoting electoral justice, to safeguard both the legality of the electoral process and the political rights of citizens, LRC has been awarded a grant by STAR-Ghana with funding from UKaid, DANIDA and EU to implement a project captioned “Consolidating the Electoral Justice System in Ghana” (CEJS). LRC and its partnering organization, LADA will officially launch this project on Friday, 17th June 2016 at the Legal Resources Centre, Dzorwulu.

Elections across the world are important events in a country’s political atmosphere that highlights the level of the country’s democracy. Therefore, an electoral justice system that resolves political conflicts effectively and guarantees full compliance with the law enables a democracy to thrive. The CEJS project seeks to lay the foundations of justice and peace for subsequent elections in the country. It will focus on enhancing the electoral system by joining forces and collaborating with the Electoral Commission to initiate reforms of the electoral laws. This collaboration aims to bridge those gaps that make the electoral system susceptible to misconducts, preventing the situation of the 2012 election petition. The project also aims to educate the public on their electoral rights to reduce violence that emanates from electoral proceedings and processes.

The executive director of LRC, Ms. Daphne Lariba Nabila will host the inaugural meeting at the LRC headquarters as Mr. Samuel Asare-Akuamoah, the Acting Chair for the National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE) will chair the event. During the meeting, topics discussed will include; the purpose of the project, the processes and mechanisms by which the project would be undertaken and the specific proposals that would guide the project. Members of the Electoral Commission, the Federation OF Youth Clubs (FYC), the director of Amnesty International Ghana will attend the event. Several members from the media will also be present. By launching this project, LRC and LADA will aim to increase the confidence Ghanaian citizens have in their electoral justice system, and empower them to identify, report and resolve electoral conflicts
