STRENGTHENING THE JUDICIARY TO DEAL WITH HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES DURING ELECTIONS 2012

In partnership with STAR Ghana and with funding from DFID, DANIDA and EU, LRC is working on an advocacy programme to raise the awareness on the need for a specialized court that will hear cases on election disputes. Article 139(3) of the 1992 Constitution allows the Chief Justice to create divisions in the High Court as she/he may determine. Other courts have been established but not an elections court. Cases with election related conflicts have to go through the regular courts. This brings about delays as cases will have to be handled by judges who are already bogged down with other cases.
